This January, the Good Clinical Trials Collaborative (“the Collaborative”) brought world leaders in clinical trials together in Switzerland for a forum of its Good Trials Prism initiative.
Taking place at the Brocher Foundation, the event convened Good Trials Prism members and guests to discuss the program’s achievements and how to ensure sustained impact.
The Collaborative – led by Prof Sir Martin Landray (Chief Executive Officer, Protas, and Senior Lead, the Collaborative) and Nick Medhurst (Head of the Collaborative) – set up Good Trials Prism in 2022. Members include ADVANCE-ID, AHRI, OUCRU, TGHN and the Collaborative.
Through expert guidance and insights, Good Trials Prism helps to improve the capability of individuals, institutions and systems in low- and middle-income countries to produce reliable evidence through randomised clinical trials that enables informed changes in healthcare practice.
Forum participants also explored the recently updated ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guideline and reviewed its Annex 2, which focuses on trials that use decentralised elements and Real-World Data (RWD) and is currently open for public comment before it is published later this year.
Technology has enabled the Good Trials Prism partnership to flourish despite the geographical distances between us, but it is always good to get together in person with the space and time to reflect on what we have learned and explore the next phase of our collaboration with renewed energy and creativity.
Over two days, participants from Singapore, Vietnam, Mexico, South Africa and the UK reflected on the program’s achievements and explored new avenues for global impact. Discussions emphasised the importance of fostering ethical, efficient and impactful clinical trial practices across diverse regions, highlighting the significance of diversity and inclusion in trial participants.
The group also welcomed representatives from the World Health Organization’s Science Division. Dr Wei Zhang, Technical Officer, highlighted WHO’s recent efforts in strengthening clinical trials globally and its ongoing partnership with the Collaborative on best practice guidance and training materials.
The forum is a major milestone for Good Trials Prism, driving progress in how trials are designed and conducted.
Thank you to the Brocher Foundation for hosting the event.
